Mia-dong first appeared in the official record of Ordinance Yukjeon during the second year of king Gojong Joseon dynasty as Miari-gye in Hanseong-bu Dong-bu Sungshin-bang (outside capital castle), but the origin is not certain. According to an old folk story, Doineomi hill (Donam-hyeon) was also called Miari hill, so it was originated from the name of the hill. Another story is that Mia temple used to be in Buldang-gol of Mia 7-dong, so it was originated from the name of the temple. Anyway, Miari means rest on the hill according to the Chinese meaning behind the name, so there is an inseparable relationship between the name and the hill.
