  • Name of the City : Ontario Chatham-Kent
  • Location : Located in the south of Ontario, Canada and border area to Detroit, U.S. (From Toronto, Canada Southwest 309Km - 3-4 hours away by car)
  • Size : 2,494 Km² (605Km², four times of Seoul, and 23.6Km² 108 times of Gangbuk-gu)
  • Population : Approximately 107,710 people (in 2001)
  • Governing Areas : Chatham City and local Communities consist of 22 Kent (small towns)
  • Administrative Organizations : Mayor, Administrator of the City (Assistant Mayor), 5 bureaus, 20 departments, library, public health office, utility commission (electricity, water management),Police Department, The number of employees are approximately 1,700 people, and 1 official managing 63 people
  • Natural Environment
    • Most of the the fields are without mountains and valleys, and except for some cities, lands are mainly used into the field
    • The air is cleaner than other regions, and there is a famous lake, the Lake Eerie en route to Niagara Falls
    • Various plants and trees in the Rondeau Provincial Park
    • Less rainfall than other parts of Canada but there are four distinct seasons
    • No heavy rainy season and a little rainfall but wind is quite strong
  • Transportation
    • There is no direct airline that connects to Chatham-Kent but Korean Airline flies directly to Toronto from Inchon International Airport. However, in order to get to the city, you have to use the Canadian Central Highway (No. 401) of 1,000km (10 total travel hours) after driving 3-4 hours from the airport, which connects Ottawa-Chatham-Kent-Detroit
  • City Council
    • Unlike the federal government, it consists of a congress, and it does not have comprehensive voting rights but has voting rights only on the voting items that are stated by the Legislature
    • 18 people including Chairman (Mayor also seats for Chairman)
  • Industrial/Economic Characteristics
    • Border area to Detroit(automobile industrial complex), city is known for manufacturing and supplying auto parts
      In particular, a world-class automotive airbags factory is in operation. Airbag for the Korean automobile, Dynasty is also manufactured from the city
    • Hockey stick factory
    • Based on abundant natural resources and convenient transportation, there are world's largest cherry tomato growing plant and the world's largest agricultural seed Institute
    • In recent years, the city focuses on attracting foreign investment at the city level
  • Main specialties
    • Agriculture : Soybeans, Corn, Tomatoes, and Potatoes, etc
    • Fisheries : Carp, Snakehead Fish (very large), and Salmon
    • Has a number of rich historical and cultural assets including “Dresden”, backdrop of the worldly renown classic, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Cabins)”
    • Old, luxury car showroom and Railroad Museum
    • The history of African Canadians and American Indians, and their historic sites and cultural remains
