In 1522 during the 17th year of King Jungjong, Good Monk named Shinwol has built the temple. Initially, a legal counsel, Tanmun has founded Bodeokam in Buhuh-dong of the Mt. Triangle during the period of King Kwangjong (949-975) but in 1522, Shinwol has move the temple after having a discussion with Seopyeonggun, Yigong, and called it Hwagyesa Temple after building three Beopdang and 50 Yosa Kans.
In 1618 (King Kwanghae’s 10th year) the temple has burnt out, Dowol has completed the renovation of the temple with donations from Heungdeok Daegun on March of the following year. Afterwards in 1866 (3rd year of King Gojong), Yongseon and Beomwoon have renovated the old temple with donations from King Gojong's father Daewongun. Choam has renovated Gwaneumjeon in 1876 and Shiwangjeon in 1878. On February of 1885, Geumsan has renovated Sanshingak, in 1921, Hyeonha and Donghwa have renovated Gwaneumjeon and Shiwangjeon, and in 1943, remodeled Siwangjeon again.
