After passing the pine tree park of Ui-dong with full of trees and walking on a paved road, you reach Bo-gwang Temple that is located on the bottom of the Mountain Triangle. Many years ago, temple used to be located in the middle of the forest, but now it neighbors next to the center of the city, therefore, you don’t feel that you have walked up to the mountain.
The temple was built by monk Wondam in 1788 or in the 12th year of King Jeongjo, the 22nd King of Joseon Dynasty and he named it Shinwon Temple. During the Korean War, most of buildings were destroyed but some are recovered afterwards.
In 1979, monk Jeongil from Namsandang started Buddhism evangelical work and changed the name of the temple to Bo-gwang Temple in November 1980.
